When
June's father dies, she prays for a healer to come
to the small town of Gray, so that no one will
ever suffer again. The next thing she knows, there's a
tornado, and a man in a balloon blows into town, bringing
with him the strange ways of a Jewish, blood-phobic doctor
from the East.
Speaking
of germs and other diagnostic terms makes Galen Gray suspect
as a mysterious, deadly illness spreads like a flood through
the hearty townfolk. At first the new doctor cures anything
and everything, but soon the town's preacher takes ill
with a mysterious plague. And then the plague begins to
spread.
ANATOMY
OF GRAY deals with death, loss, love, and
healing in a unique coming of age story set in 1895
Indiana. Jim Leonard, Jr., award-winning author of
THE DIVINERS (SBYT’s first drama in February
2001), brilliantly weaves these themes of the heartland’s
settlers at turn of the century into our hearts and
minds. He describes his newest play as "A children's
story for adults."
